Thailand Issue New Driving Licence

The Land Transport Department has began issuing new styled driving licenses in Thailand.

The new licence are smart cards, with built in QR Code to help remove the possibility of counterfeiting, according to the department's Sanit Promwong.

He added that the old style licence is still valid unless it expires and that there is no legal requirement for anyone to dash out and upgrade their driving permit unless they wish to do so.

Another benefit for those in possession of the new version, is that it can be used in other ASEAN countries without the need for an international licence.

The QR Code feature stores information about the driver, which when scanned will reveal whatever information the department have on you.

Unfortunately there is no new test before people are issued with a licence.
