Wild Dogs To Be Fitted With Cameras
A new smart vest will be fitted to many wild dogs in Phuket, which will be used as a security device.
A team led by Pakornkrit Khantaprab, who explained how they have created a vest that stray dogs will wear, turning them into watchdogs. The vest is fitted with a camera that is triggered when the dog barks. As we all know, dogs bark when they see, hear or smell something unusual in their vicinity, often as a means of informing their owners or other pack dogs of a presence.
When the dog barks, the camera is activated and a notification is sent to people who live or work in the vicinity, using either 4G or Wi-Fi connectivity.
Anyone who has installed the mobile phone application, will have access to a dog's eye view of what is happening. So whatever the dog is barking at, will become visible on a mobile phone screen.
Mr Khantaprab hopes that the move will help stray dogs be seen in a different light. He claims stray dogs have the right to live and should not be caged or put to sleep. He feels that animal shelters are not the place for wild dogs.
Well folks, at least when you are being harassed by a pack of wild or even rabid dogs, a video of your experience may appear on Facebook or YouTube.
This idea in principle is a good one, if the animals are working within a perimeter fence of a factory or other business, for they are then acting as security dogs and only a threat to anyone who should not be there. But in the wild, they are at least a menace and often dangerous, especially to small children, and fitting a vest with a camera affixed to it, is hardly the solution.
Tell us your thoughts? What can or should be done about the packs of wild dogs that roam freely around Thailand?
