Help Is At Hand For Disabled People In Thailand

The Mental Health Department (MHD) is attempting to assist people with physical disabilities by furnishing them with a variety of mobility items.

MHD Director General Sqn Leader Boonruang Triruangworawat said "We plan to help 2,000 people this year, who are disabled and have mobility issues".

The project is being administered through various support groups and charities that will deliver items such as wheelchairs and walking aids to many people.

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is behind the project, which recently delivered mobility aids to 185 people in the Sa Kaeo Province.

The Director General of the MHD hopes that the mobility aids will help reduce obstacles and increase morale, whilst help people get around.

The wheelchairs being supplied are said to be personalised, to meet the physical size of the person it is being delivered to. Training is also provided to both the recipients and the parents or helpers to ensure that they get the most out of their new acquisitions.

So far the MHD have delivered over 10,000 mobility aids, costing around 205 million baht.
