Football Round Up
The English Premier League got underway at the weekend providing shock scores and successful debuts for some.
Chelsea had two sent off at home to Burnley, in a game which the visitors won by three goals to two. Captain Gary Cahill was red carded for a lunge on Steven Defour after 14 minutes of play. Burnley took advantage of the situation scoring three goals, to go in at half-time three goals ahead, with a brace from Vokes and a goal from Ward.
Morata pulled one back in 69 minutes but then Fabregas received a second yellow and was also sent packing. But the nine men of Chelsea again pulled one back from a David Luis strike from close range, with two minutes to go. Despite a frantic and entertaining few minutes, the Clarets held on to take a valuable three points at Stamford Bridge. Liverpool travelled to Watford to earn a point in a six goal thriller at Vicarage Road. Osaka gave the home side an early lead but the visitors pulled one back through Mane before Doucoure restored Watford's lead, taking them in at the interval leading 2-1. Then Liverpool looked to have won the match as two goals in two minutes from Firmino and Salah put them in front for the first time in the match. Three minutes into injury time a goal from Britos, gave Watford a deserved point.
Manchester United's new signing Romelu Lakaka scored twice in his Manchester United league debut as the reds romped home at home to West Ham.
Two more goals from Martial and Pogba ensured United would claim all three points.
On Friday, Arsenal won a seven goal thriller against former champions Leicester at the Emirates.
Arsenal's four goals came from Lacazette (2), Welbeck (45+2), Ramsey (83), Giroud (85) with a further three being fired in to their net from the visitors by Okazaki (5) and Vardy (29, and 56).
Leicester at one time took the lead through Vardy but couldn't hold their advantage, finally losing by the odd goal in seven.
But it is Huddersfield who sit proudly at the top of the league after match day one, with a fine 3-0 victory against Crystal Palace.
Next weekend they could still be top, if they can defeat Newcastle at home.
In Scotland, Celtic beat Partick Thistle by the only goal of the game coming from an Olivier Ntcham volley.
Celtic have now gone 51 domestic games without defeat. Hibs came from behind to beat Rangers, after Morelos put the Gers in front after only three minutes. Newly promoted Hibs equalised through Murray. A straight red card was shown to Ross Jack after he grabbed Hibernian's McGeouch by the throat. Hibs took the lead through a Tavernier own goal in 39 minutes, with Slivka adding to Rangers woes in the 65th.
Despite a late goal from Tavernier and a rally from the home side, the Edinburgh club hung on to take the points.
St Johnstone hold top spot by beating Motherwell by four goals to one. In Europe, Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in a game that saw Ronaldo dismissed for a second bookable offence. He received his first yellow card for his celebration that gave Madrid the lead and was sent off for a dive later in the match.
Real's star player will be in deep trouble as he pushed the referee after being sent off, which could result in a lengthy ban for the player
