Bangkok Named As World's Top City For A Weekend Break
Thailand's capital city, Bangkok, has been named as the best destination for city Breaks.
The country's Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has congratulated the city, saying he is delighted to hear of the news and that it is government policy to encourage people to visit Thailand and persuade them to stay for longer visits.
Government spokesperson Lt-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd stated that measures such as exempting visa fees and extending the time visitors can remain in the country will go a long way to help boost tourism.
British newspaper, The Daily Mirror reported that Bangkok was the cheapest city in the Post Office Travel Money's Long Haul City Costs Barometer for 2017.
Apparently researchers checked prices of eleven items such as food and drink, tourist attractions, airport transfers and accommodation. Once the costs were combined, they were compared to a number of other cities that were in contention, revealing the destinations which are best value for money.
Bangkok came out on top with a cost of 13,700 baht for a weekend break, beating a number of other top tourist locations in the process.
The report suggested that Bangkok offered numerous attractions in what it called a "vibrant" city but named the "Grand Palace" as the number one attraction, describing it as awe-inspiring.
