Walking Street Raided Again But Nothing Found
Walking Street got one of its frequent visits on Wednesday evening, from police led by Bang Lamung District Chief Naris Niramaiwong.
Reports suggested they were out placing warning stickers at the entrance to each venue but the image below appears to show a member of the party carrying a machine gun.
The apparent heavy-handed approach will baffle many residents in Pattaya.
The chief has in recent times been carrying out a crusade, hell bent on closing Go-Go Bars, nightclubs and gambling dens in the city, many of which were deemed illegal. However, his actions are having a monumental effect on Pattaya's tourist industry. Bars cannot make money and are closing on a daily basis as owners are said to be heading to Cambodia, where it is easier to set up a business or obtain a work permit.
On Wednesday, ten bars were inspected in Pattaya's famous Walking Street. Female workers had their ID cards examined, and urine tests carried out to determine if there were any drug taking amongst them.
Seven girls were found not to be in possession of ID cards but NO drugs were found.
The chief said the evening was a success but was it really? How much damage was done to Walking Street when police appear in strength like this?
Claims that they are doing this to rid Thailand of human trafficking are all good and well but there is no evidence of this going on. Another raid with no arrests of note.
The authorities should take time to reflect on the damage their causing to the tourist industry in Pattaya. For once the people stop visiting, there will be untold damage to the shops, hotels and entertainment venues of this wonderful city. Let's promote Pattaya and make the city a place tourists want to come to time and time again.
