Two Thai Badminton Stars Head to Glasgow For World Championships

Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand's badminton sensation could face close rival Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the quarter-finals of the World Championships, which begins on August 21st, should they both win their opening matches.

Intanon received a bye for the first round and will face either Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen of Australia or Yap Rui Chen of Malaysia in the second round.

The event is being held in Glasgow's Commonwealth Arena between the 21st and 27th of August.

The Thai star became the youngest ever world badminton champion in 2013, at the age of 18. Now 22-years-old, she hopes to repeat that 2013 performance and bring home the world title to Thailand again.

Thailand has one other representative in Glasgow, in the form of number 11 seed Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk.

The 26-year-old faces Holland's Nick Fransman in the opening round, in a match he is expected to win.
