Thailand's Queen Sirikit Celebrates Her 85th Birthday Tomorrow
Tomorrow, Saturday 12th of August is a day for celebration in Thailand for two reasons.
Firstly it is Mother's Day in the Kingdom and many people who work in Thailand's cities will head home to visit their mother on this special day. Many people flock to the cities such as Bangkok or Pattaya in search of employment from rural Thailand but on this day, most will travel home to pay homage to their mothers.
Secondly, the whole nation will join together to wish Queen Sirikit a very happy birthday. The mother of King Maha Vajiralongkorn will celebrate her 85th birthday, with the blessings of the Thai nation.
Her Majesty was also the consort of the late revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who sadly passed away on October 13th, 2016 at the age of 88.
The Queen was born on the 12th of August 1932 in Bangkok to parents Nakkhatra Mangala, the Prince of Chanthaburi and Bua Sanidvongs.
Queen Sirikit, met her husband in Paris, where her father was the Thai Ambassador. They married in 1950 just before his coronation. She was appointed Queen Regent in 1956.
Between them, they have four children including King Maha Vajiralongkorn, Princess Ubolratana, Princess Sirindhorn and Princess Chulabhorn.
The Queen was educated in England from the age of 13, shortly after World War Two. She learned to speak English and French fluently and also became an accomplished pianist.
The family moved to Denmark, then France, where she studied music in Paris.
In her role as Queen of Thailand, she attended many public functions and events. In 1956, she became the President of the Thai Red Cross Society, where she became a renowned and distinguished charitable character.
When over 40,000 refugees poured into Thailand in 1979, Her Majesty visited Trat Province to see for herself, what the situation was and to determine how she could assist. She inaugurated the Khao Larn Thai Red Cross Centre, which provided shelter, food and medical services to Cambodians who fled the problems in their homeland during this period.
Those she helped were mainly poor peasant people, with many of them orphans who had lost their parents in the troubles.
Queen Sirikit, was a keen supporter of people in need, donating to charities or funding medical care for the poor. She is well known for her generosity and kindness to others.
In 2008/2009, the nation was struck by severe storms and floods, and once more the Queen rose to the challenge in her efforts to help those less fortunate than herself, dispatching food, clothing, blankets and tools to aid the repair of homes. There is no doubt that Her Majesty is a caring person, with a love of the people of Thailand.
In fairness, you could write a book filled with her acts of humanitarianism, generosity to others and her love of the country she has resided over since the 1950s.
Like her beloved husband King Bhumibol Adulyadej, she is adored by the people of Thailand and highly thought of around the world.
The Pattaya Visa Shop would like to join the nation and wish Queen Sirikit a very happy birthday, and hope she has many more to follow.
