Sex Traffickers Arrested In Bangkok

A gang who coerced woman from Africa into prostitution has been busted in Bangkok.

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) were acting on a tip-off from Alliance Anti-Trafic and other international agencies, following reports that a Moroccan woman had pleaded for help.

The woman said she had been assaulted, was forced to have sex with customers, had her passport confiscated and had videos taken of her having sex, with a view of blackmailing her. She was allegedly forced to work in a hotel in the Soi Nana area of the capital.

The investigation led to the arrest of several people, who were named by the DSI as Michael Pearl, 45, from Sudan, who was in possession of an Australian passport; Ghassan Wakej, 36, a Syrian national and an unnamed Moroccan woman.

Additionally, two Thais, Chalard or Chairat Narachan, 62, and Aree or Chayakorn Eiumsaree, 45 were also said to be arrested.

Pearl was captured as he tried to leave the country via Suvarnabhumi Airport. Wakej was also arrested at an unidentified location, whilst the two Thais handed themselves in on Thursday.

The DSI hoped that bail would be rejected as they culprits were classed as a flight risk.
