Authorities Say The Public Have No Say In The Dolphin Roundabout Matter
Protesters who want to save the Dolphin roundabout in north Pattaya have come under fire from the local authority.
A spokesperson said the public should not interfere with plans to remove the iconic roundabout as it is not fit for purpose. They suggest that the structure, which was built in 1990, cannot cope with the demands of today's traffic and that it will be replaced by traffic lights.
Whilst what the authorities are saying could well be true and a solution must be found, the question has to be asked as to why they need to destroy it completely. Simple find a new location for it , where people can still enjoy its beauty but it does not impact on traffic. A nice park for instance would be an ideal home for the dolphins.
So far hundreds of people have signed a petition to save the roundabout and it is likely to gain momentum now.
Traffic lights will be installed at the location at a reported cost of seven million baht.
Phinit Maneerat, said at a press conference yesterday "It is not necessary to ask the public what they want".
