Thailand To Trial New Toyota EV Sharing Scheme
First we had the "Bike Sharing" schemes around the world but it seems we could be on the verge of adding "Car Sharing" to our lives as Toyota reveal new trials in Thailand.
Toyota will test a car sharing service using one of their mini electric vehicle model.
The trials commence in December, with ten of their one passenger EVs, which will be placed on a campus at the Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok.
Similar trials have already taken place in Tokyo and Grenoble in Japan and France respectively.
Drivers will be able to make use of the cars for 20 minutes at a cost of 30 baht, between 07:00 and 19:00 during week days, with the EVs will be available on the campus only.
Payment will be deducted using a dedicated smart phone application in conjunction with a credit or debit card.
A further 20 EVs will be supplied in July 2018 and results analysed by the end of 2019.
The large campus has a contingent of motorcycle taxis, which students currently use to get around but will soon have the opportunity to drive themselves about.
