Man Caught Smuggling Gold At Bangladeshi Airport
A man has been arrested in Bangladesh on gold smuggling charges, when he was found to have 25kg of gold strapped to his thighs.
You might be thinking that wasn't the brightest idea to try smuggling that amount of gold attached to your body, but this man was in a wheelchair. He was however able bodied and faking his disability.
Amazingly, customs officials only became suspocious when he was flagged for having travelled abroad 13 times in 2017.
Jamil Akhter, was caught with the largest haul of gold this year in Bangladesh, which is known to be a hub for smuggling gold into India, because of India's high import duties on the precious metal. India is also known to be one of the world's biggest gold consumer markets, which has led to an increase in gold smuggling from Bangladesh.
The problem has become so bad that even air hostesses, ground staff and security personnel have been involved in smuggling.
