Hilarious Sign On Jomtien Beach Is A Hazard To Pedestrians

The old saying "Only in Thailand" will spring to mind when you read this news report, from Sophon Cable.

Jomtien Beach Road in Pattaya, was the location, for local authorities to put up a new sign. The blue sign gave a number of laws that people should follow, which is fantastic - until you see the placement of the sign.

It is located smack, bang in the middle of a public pathway, meaning pedestrians either have to walk on the road or crawl under it.

By all accounts, people have walked into the metal structure, despite its size, often due to being distracted by the goings on at the beach.

The sign was originally higher than it is now, but it has slowly slid down the pole, completely blocking the path. The cause is said to be rust!

An anonymous tourist took a photo pointing out the obstruction.

Sophon passed remarks with regards to the authorities recent demands to take down signs in Walking Street, that were deemed to block access for emergency services, despite many of them having been there for years.

The sign covers some valid points but had many locals either laughing at the placement or frustrated at not being able to make use of the pavement.

According to motorcycle taxi drivers in the area, the sign has been a problem for around a month.

They claimed the authorities have been informed but had done nothing to resolve the problem. Some told of tourists walking into the sign when using their phones or facing other distractions.

Even Thai people got in on the act, on Sophon's Facebook page, ridiculing the authorities.

The rules, written in Thai cover some of the problematic issues seen all over Pattaya such as "No driving on the pavement, No drunk driving, Wear a helmet when riding a motorbike and Not using road space for business use".
