Arsenal have won the Charity shield by defeating league champions Chelsea on penalties, following a 1-1 draw.
The Stamford Bridge side took the lead through Victor Moses, midway through the game. But after 80 minutes, Pedro was red carded for a bad tackle on Mohamed Elneny, which also earned the Gunners a free-kick in a favourable position. From the free-kick, debutant Sead Kolasinac headed into the net to level the match.
Arsenal won 4-1 on spot kicks. This for the first penalty shoot-out in England to follow the new ABBA format.
The old system meant that the second penalty taker was always under more pressure, especially if the first taker scored. But the new system sees penalty takers alternate so team A followed by team B and so on.
The ABBA system, is based on team A followed by team B then team B again, followed by team A and so on until a winner is found.
Holland ladies won their first major tournament as they lifted the European Championship 2017 on home soil. The Dutch beat Denmark 4-2 in the final, despite falling behind from a Danish penalty kick. Arsenal star Vivianne Miedema, scored twice, with Martins and Spitse also hitting the net for the Dutch.
Liverpool's attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho, looks set to join Barcelona in a £120m deal. The twenty-five-year-old Brazilian, could be on his way, following Neymar's move to PSG.
Liverpool Manager Jurgan Klopp says the player is not for sale but it will be hard for the reds to resist such as lucrative deal.
