Scottish Champions Celtic progressed to the Champion's League play-off round, after a 69th minute strike by makeshift striker James Forrest put the Celts in front against Norwegian champions Rosenborg.

The first leg was a 0-0 drab affair, with the first half of the second leg remaining goalless too, despite the better chances coming from the Glasgow visitors. The second half saw Rosenborg enjoy the better possession until Forrest blasted home from a tight angle. The Scottish Champions will now face either Astana, Hapoel Beer Sheva, Rijeka, Slavia Prague or Qarabag in the final step to the group stages.

Brazilian star Neymar, 25, is set to earn 865,000 euros (£775,477) per week if he completes his move to PSG from Barcelona.

The Spanish side will only permit the move if PSG meet the transfer fee of 222m euro (£198m) in full, denying the French club the opportunity to pay in instalments.

It is believed that PSG will have no problem making the payment for the Barca star.

Liverpool lost their first pre-season match to Atletico Madrid on a penalty shoot out. The English side were competing in the Audi Cup final in Munich, when the went down 5-4 from spot-kicks.

The match ended in a 1-1 stalemate after the Spanish took the lead from a Keidi Bare's first-half strike. Liverpool equalised through a Roberto Firmino spot-kick.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson missed his kick in the shoot out, giving Madrid the victory.

Nemanja Matic made his debut for Manchester United in Dublin as they beat Italian side Sampdoria. The former Chelsea player signed from the London outfit last week.

Goalkeeper Robin Ruiter has signed on at Sunderland in a two-year deal.

The Dutchman left FC Utrecht at the end of last season, permitting the 30-year-old to join the Black Cats on trial, which earned him a permanent deal.

British sides take part in the second leg or the Europa League third qualifying round tonight, Thursday 3rd of August. Aberdeen play Appolon Limassol of Cyprus after winning 2-1 at home in the first leg. The Dons famously won the old UEFA Cup beating the mighty Real Madrid by two goals to one, under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, back in 1983. Everton take a 1-0 lead to Slovakia where they play the relatively unknown side of Ruzomberok. Manager Ronald Koeman, will be hoping his side will hold out and possibly snatch a vital away goal to see them through.
