Ofo Bike Sharing Comes To Bangkok

Following the completion of a recent trial, Ofo, the Chinese bike sharing company, will extend its services to Bangkok.

Thailand becomes the fifth nation that Ofo operates in, following the successes in Kazakhstan, Singapore, UK and the USA.

Soon 6,000 yellow bikes will be placed around Thailand's capital, available for hire by the public. There will be a 99 baht deposit and users will pay five baht for every 30 minutes.

The introduction of the bikes will be free for three months from August 1st.

Ofo began life in 2014 in Beijing and was recently valued at one billion dollars.

Unlike other bike sharing companies, Ofo does not have GPS tracking nor do they use a docking platform.

To use the bikes, you firstly have to download the Ofo application. Then a code, which is on the bike, is entered into the app. This provides the unlock code for the bike.

When the rider is done with the bike, they simply leave it where bicycle parking is permitted and it is ready for the next customer. There is no requirement to find a designated docking area.
