World Famous Walking Street Sign Gets Facelift

The world famous sign that is located above the entrance to Pattaya's Walking Street has undergone repairs, possibly for the first time in its nine years of existence.

The neon lights, that leaves you in no doubt that you have arrived at the legendary tourist hot spot, was visited by a number of maintenance workers, who gave it a face lift, replacing rusting metal and furnishing it with a general clean up.

The work was completed during the day, when tourists are rarely around and was again, ready to be switched on for nightfall, as the street comes to life once more.

The sign is popular with tourists, who will often be seen posing for photographs underneath it.

For those of you who have never been to Pattaya, Walking Street is by far its most acclaimed entertainment venue.

It is regarded as the cities "red light" area but it is much more than that. It offers some fantastic restaurants, top music venues, a multitude of bars, night clubs, Go-Go Bars, sports bars and even hotels.

Street entertainers can be found along its course, which runs from Beach Road to Bali Hai Pier. Watch magicians ply their trade in the hope they can make a living from tips offered by tourists.

There are a number of traditional Thai food retailers, selling their delicious offerings at the road side, and tourist shops are dotted around the road too.

Many small alleys disappear into the darkness, away from the neon lights that line the length of Walking Street.

And of course, you cannot distract from the mass of beautiful girls, who stand at the entrance to bars and clubs to entice customers in.

But you must go after dark, for like most other attractions that operate at night, it is a dull place during the hours of daylight. There are of course a number of areas in Pattaya that offer fantastic and varied entertainment, such as Soi 6, LK Metro, Soi Buakhao and even Jomtien and Rompho have some excellent venues but it is Walking Street that the tourists will flocked to first.
