Happy Birthday To The King

Happy Birthday to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun who celebrates his 65th birthday today.

The King has reigned since 13th October, 2016, following the sad passing of his father and predecessor King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

He was born on July 28th, 1952 in Bangkok. He was educated at King's Mead and Millfield Schools in the UK before attending military school in Australia after the conclusion of his secondary school education. He continued his learning in Canberra, Australia splitting his time between military training and a bachelor's degree. His obtained a second bachelor's degree from the Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University.

In 1978, he was ordained as a monk at Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram (Temple of the Emerald Buddha).

He served in the Royal Thai Army, is a qualified helicopter pilot and holds the rank of Field Marshall in the Army along with a number of other commanding roles in the Navy and Air Force.

The King is qualified to fly the likes of a Boing 737.

He established the Crown Prince Hospitals to serve people living in remote areas of Thailand.
