Flooding Causes Chaos In North And North East Thailand

Tropical storm Sonca has reaped havoc upon Sakon Nakhon Province in the north east of Thailand, bringing with it floods galore, which has caused many roads to temporary disappear under the deluge of water.

Electricity failures followed in many locations and the Sakon Nakhon Hospital had to relocate patients to upper floors as water threaten the ground floor area.

Reservoirs couldn't cope with the quantity of water and overflows released the surplus, exacerbating conditions further downstream. People in villages had retreat to higher ground in a bid to remain safe.

Temporary shelters were set up to help with the homeless and food and fresh drinking water was brought in to alleviate hunger and thirst.

As days turned into night and back into days, the rain continued, resulting in the Yom River bursting its banks and flooding areas in the Muang area of Sukhothai Province, flooding a local market.

Some areas were lucky as flood barriers held their ground, preventing water from doing greater damage.

Overall it has been an unpleasant couple of days for much of the north and north east of the Kingdom, with homes and shops being severely affected.
