Monsoons Kill 48 In Western India

Monsoons currently lambasting India, have killed at least 48 people.

Officials from the country have reported that much of the western areas of the country are awash with floods as persistent heavy rain covers much of the nation.

Many of the streets in Rajasthan, have been turned into rivers, leading to thousands being trapped in the upper floors of houses and offices.

Emergency services are working around the clock to rescue stranded citizens.

People have been left homeless as the monsoons destroyed or flooded much of the residential areas.

In neighbouring Gujarat, 29 people have died as a result of the rains.

The military have stepped in to assist police and emergency services in a bid to get people to safety but the task is an arduous one.

The monsoon season runs from June till September and so far, 83 people have lost their lives, with most of those who have died, having drowned but some of the deaths were due to electrocution or as a result of collapsing buildings.

Unfortunately, the western regions will endure further rains over the next seven days, according to India's Meteorological Department, with the death toll expected to rise.
