There was good news for Bangkok bus conductress Sumon Mahidun, who displayed honesty when returning a bag holding one million baht, which she found after a passenger left the bus. The owner, a gynaecologist, repaid her integrity with two bags of sweets, claiming the money was to pay off debts. The doctor came under fire across the internet for his miserly reward.

But sometimes a good deed is rewarded in other ways.

A former Chulalongkorn University lecturer, Theeraporn Verathaworn, presented the lady and the bus driver with a substantial sum for their honesty. Sumon received 15,000 baht, whilst driver Punnawit Chalongnatesodsai received 5,000 baht. The money was paid out his own pocket, after reading about the incident online.

Kind-hearted Mr Verathaworn, presented the reward at the Bangkok Mass Transit Headquarters, where they are employed.

Sumon, 50, was said to be delighted by the award. It has to be said that it is much better than two bags of candy but Sumon was happy with the doctor's explanation and never at any time complained about not receiving any financial recompence for her actions.
