Village Community Hauls Vehicle Up Hillside
Villages in the province of Chiang Mai displayed genuine community spirit as they assisted in pulling a pick-up from a cabbage plantation, situated in a valley below the road it had plunged from.
Facebook user Nchai Xyooj told of the incident and how more than 100 locals pulled the vehicle up a steep incline for around 100 metres near the village of Ban Hmong Doi Kham.
Due to the looseness of the soil underfoot, they could not utilise the horsepower from a rescue vehicle, so the villages simply went down and hauled the stricken pick-up from the valley floor.
The driver of the pick-up lost control as his drove it along a winding road, which was rather treacherous due to wet soil found on the road surface. He was on his way to collect cabbages from the field at the foot of the steep hill, when disaster struck and he plummeted down the gradient.
Locals rescued his truck in a 30 minute show of strength and willingness but the vehicle received considerable damage during the incident. The roof had been flattened, windscreen broken and a number of dents were visible on the bodywork. Thankfully the unnamed driver was not seriously hurt.
