Storm Sonca Heading For Thailand
A tropical storm that has hit Vietnam is set to bring torrential rain and floods to much of Thailand.
The storm, known as "Sonca" has sparked fears of a deluge of water causing havoc for the people across the nation.
In preparation, the Royal Irrigation Department will open up eleven dams and release enough water for the reservoirs to cope with the expected high rainfall.
As a result of the additional water flowing freely from the dams, rivers and canal water levels are expected to increase by at least 25cm. This in turn heightens the chances of flooding around the waterways.
At risk from being overwhelmed by water are the areas of Ang Thong and Ayutthaya it was annouced.
Storm Sonca is expected to move over the north east, parts of the north and central areas of the Kingdom. Rainfall is expected to be heavy in these regions and locals have been warned to take additional care.
