No Reward But She Is Happy
A doctor who left one million baht on a public transport vehicle was delighted when an honest citizen returned the money. However, he has come under fire on the internet for the miserly reward afforded to the finder.
The unnamed gynaecologist endured the wrath of netizens after giving Sumon Matidul, conductor of Bus 511, which operates in the suburbs of Bangkok, just two bags of sweets as a reward.
The doctor called the lady to apologies after the news broke on social media and various websites, with many calling him a "cheap ass".
Sumon said the Thai doctor claimed the money was to pay off his debts. She also expressed that she did not request a reward and was happy with the two bags of sweets, which she gave to her child.
She told Amarin TV that she thanked him and that she understood his predicament stating "I would cry if I lost 500 baht, never mind one million".
The lady's honest received recognition in the form of a certificate from the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority for her integrity.
But as in many countries, Sumon could have asked for 10% of the value of the money returned as a reward. This was cited by a Thai celebrity lawyer Songkran Atchariyasap, who had been following the story.
Sumon showed that she is a woman of great morality so it would have been nice to see her gain some financial benefit from her honest actions.
