Bangkok Has One Of The Cheapest Taxi Services In The World
Anyone living in Thailand, will appreciate how cheap the taxis are in the Kingdom. So it is hardly surprising that Bangkok's taxis are listed as one of the ten cheapest in the world.
The Taxi Price Index for 2017 rated Bangkok's cab services at number eight in a poll conducted across 80 nations. The survey was based on a three kilometre journey, which in the capital works out at 55 baht, which is much cheaper than the likes of Pattaya, where the minimum fare is usually 200 baht.
But even Bangkok trailed well behind the leader. Egypt's capital city costs a mere 18.5 baht for the same journey.
The most expensive city to take a taxi was Zurich, which at 1,160 baht was well ahead of the likes of Jakarta, Mumbai and of course Bangkok.
Where Thailand scores highly is for longer journeys such as Pattaya to Suvarnabhumi Airport, a distance of around 140 odd kilometres, yet it is possible to find taxis from 1200 baht.
Other things to consider are the standard of vehicles. For instance in Amsterdam, many of the taxis are Mercedes or in London, taxis are usually in the form of black cabs.
The report from Coconuts joked that the rankings did not take into account the times passengers were rejected, saying Bangkok would be at the bottom end of the survey, had that been the case.
