Couple Wed In The Antarctic
A British couple decided to tie the knot and get married. Nothing unusual there you say.
But this was no ordinary wedding, for it was held deep into British Antarctic Territory, some 2000 miles from the Falklands.
The happy couple, Julie Baum and Tom Sylvester, said their vows in freezing conditions at the Rothera Research Station. In doing so they made history by becoming the first couple to marry in the territory.
The pair work as polar field guides but never in their wildest dreams did they expect to get hitched in the Antarctic.
Julie, assisted by some of the other women based at the station, produced her own dress especially for the occasion.
Paul Samways, Rothera Research Station leader, conducted the ceremony.
