Who Wants To Be a Millionaire?
Living in Thailand and fancy becoming a millionaire? If a new lottery model gets approved, your chances could improve somewhat.
The Government Lottery Office is considering adding a new online proposal, that could see punters winning up to 400 million baht in prize money.
The online model will follow many foreign lottery games, allowing for roll-overs if there is no winner. Using this format, it would be possible for the winner to receive a substantial amount of money.
The law is currently being amended to permit prizes to be rolled over for two successive draws, which is needed for the new lottery format to work.
If all goes well, the new system would increase earnings for the government and put an end to overpricing by dubious lottery ticket sellers.
The current lottery tickets can be purchased on any street corner, where the sales people should be charging 80 baht per ticket but as many of us know, prices vary, often costing 100 baht or more.
An online system, would also make it easier for lucky ticket holders to collect their winnings.
The one downside is the effect it may have on the many law abiding lottery ticket sales people, many of whom are disabled.
