Thailand Want More Australian Visitors
Not so long ago, the Tourist Authority of Thailand were singing the praises of the Chinese and Russian tourists, describing them as "quality" tourists. And rightly so, for anyone who visits Thailand for their holidays or on business, should be made to feel special.
However, there has been a change in strategy, as they now heap praise on the Australians and want to attract more like them. Apparently, the Aussies spend more money per head that any other tourist.
We reported last week that Thailand requires more Europeans, Americans and Australians to visit the nation, especially in low season, for it is these tourists who spent their cash in bars, restaurants, shopping malls and night clubs. The Chinese, more often than not, spend their time visiting famous land marks or tourist attractions, which is all good and well, and of course welcomed. But cities such as Pattaya require hard cash. It needs not only sunbathers and temple visitors but people who like to party.
The government claim that the nation has over 35 million visitors per annum. Superb figures but let's get more visiting during low season. Do something to attract the tourist, when the bars and other ventures need the business most.
Advertising in these regions could provide dividends if people visit with a view of drinking, eating and spending money in shops. Or maybe they will invest in real estate and become either long term or returning visitors to Thailand.
