BBC Announce First Ever Female Doctor Who

It had been rumoured for weeks that the new "Doctor Who" would be a woman, and so it turned out to be.

The BBC TV series, which has been running since 1963, has announced the the latest Doctor will be Jodie Whittaker. She will become the 13th Time Lord since the series' inauguration.

Whittaker, a feminist, said she was overwhelmed at becoming next Doctor Who.

William Hartnell, portrayed the first Doctor back in 1963 and held the role for three years before being replaced by Patrick Troughton, who played the part until 1969.

He was followed by the popular John Pertwee, Tom Baker and Peter Davidson.

The most recent actor to have taken on the role was Peter Capaldi, who ends his tenure with a Christmas Special in 2017.

The latest incarnation of the popular Doctor is best known for her role as Beth Latimer in the TV crime drama "Broadchurch", which also starred a former Doctor Who, David Tennant.

Followers of the show have mixed feelings about the announcement. One said "A female Doctor is so cool" but another claimed "It is wrong, the BBC are just trying to tick all the boxes".

Well you cannot please everyone. Time will tell if the new Time Lord, is indeed the right choice.
