Two Men Held Over The Death Of Australian Who Died In Parasailing Tragedy

Roger Hussey

Two men accused of neglect, which resulted in an Australian tourist's death said "it was his fault".

Roger Hussey, 71, plummeted to his death whilst parasailing. Although he initially survived the 70 metre fall, he passed away in hospital. Scores of people watched on in horror as the man fell. The incident was caught on video by his Thai wife, who was filming it for him.

Monthian Jandaeng, the boat operator and the parasailing navigator Rungroj Rakcheep, blamed Mr. Hussey for the accident. They claimed they had been operating the business for over a decade without incident.

Reports say that the operators checked the equipment in the morning and it was given the all clear.

The pair claim that Mr Hussey released himself accidentally during what was supposed to be a thrilling exercise.

Mr. Rakcheep, who went up along with the tourist, claimed he tried desperately to hold on to him but was unable to maintain his grip.

They said Mr. Hussey was confused by the mechanisms and released himself accidentally.

Presently, the two operators are in jail in Phuket.
