Minister Announces 5% Rise In Tourism Over Six Month Period
The Tourist and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul has announced that people visiting the Kingdom is up by five percent from January till June, in comparison to the same period in 2016.
According to the minister, Thailand had 18 million tourist coming to the country during the aforementioned period.
Although claims that many are coming to what is being deemed as "world class medical hub" have yet to be substantiated.
Reports suggest that people are coming to Thailand from around the globe to undergo medical treatment in Thailand. They are coming from Europe, Australia, America and Asia according to the minister. However, Thailand requires more tourists during the low season, to visit cities such as Pattaya, in order to sustain the businesses in the area. Some form or promotion is required to boost tourism, especially from Europe, Australia and America. It is well recorded that Chinese tourists are aplenty but the Asian tourist comes to Thailand to visit temples or see other historic venues.
This is wonderful for the nation but the bars, clubs, restaurants and hotels require people who come for the entertainment aspect of tourism too. Visitors, who will spend money in a bar, taking a girl for a meal or going to a night club. People who will make use of water sports, visit water parks, markets or spend money in shopping malls and of course purchase or rent accommodation such as condos and villas. By all means sell the world class medical services and promote the countries many historic places of interest but we must also invest in people who put money in the pockets of businesses and the majority of these, come from Europe, Australia or America. So how about some advertising overseas to boost trade, especially during low season?
