King Power Fighting Corruption Accusations In Thailand
The owners of Leicester City Football Club have been accused of corruption worth billions of baht by the Thai government.
King Power, who purchased the English club in 2010, is accused of failing to pay 14bn baht (£327m) from it's airport duty free franchise at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The company has an agreement with the authorities, to pay 15% of their income to the to Thai government and have been accused of failing to meet the requirement.
However, the owners of King Power, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, and his son Aiyawatt have denied the claims.
Most Brits will be aware of King Power, when they purchased Leicester City, who were at the time, a Championship club, in 2010. They funded the club to the tune of £100 million for players and salaries. The club went on to win promotion and ultimately, the EPL in 2016, the first time the club had won the top flight in its history.
The following season they failed to match the standard they set in 2016 and as a result, Manager, Claudio Ranieri, was sacked, which shocked many football fans across the world. With the club fighting relegation, they offered the manager's role to Craig Shakespear, who had been the assistant at Leicester since 2011.
Under his guidance, the club moved up the table to finish the season in 12th position.
