New Police Reforms Ahead For Thailand

General Boonsrang Niumpradit, the recently appointed head of the Police Reform Committee has admitted that his task will be challenging.

The general said his goals are promoting transparency, improving police efficiency and stamping out corruption within the police force.

He is reportedly looking overseas at other countries models for ideas on how their police forces operate.

He said "If the police system is failing then it is the people who lose. Through this mission, we can improve the system."

He also wants to see transparency within the police, making the process of tracking down irregularities with internal promotions or transfers.

He will investigate those who attempt to buy or sell police positions and prosecute those who do.

Despite having no knowledge of the police force in Thailand, he remains focussed and confident that he can obtain his objectives.

Corruption appears to have been a major problem within Thailand's police but maybe the general will find a solution that will see an end to it.

The general spoke highly of the Hong Kong police system, which he says has done wonders in eradicating corruption. He also likes the American system as they are efficient.

General Niumpradit however declined to answer questions on whether members of the public would be permitted to join the sub-committees that would manage the processes he installs.

He commented that the people can express their opinions via social media, which would suggest that civilians would be omitted from any official procedures.
