Konta Reaches Wimbledon Semis
Tennis star Johanna Konta has become the first British female tennis player to reach a Wimbledon semi-final since 1978. She defeated Romanian Simona Halep 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 in a thrilling quarter-final match. Konta became the first British female tennis player to reach the semi-finals at Wimbledon since the legendary, Virginia Wade, thirty-nine years previously.
Having knocked out Halep, the number two seed, Konta now faces Venus Williams, with a view of reaching the final.
Konta was born in Sydney, Australia from Hungarian parents. Whist training in Spain at the age of fourteen, her parents moved to Eastbourne in England, where she has lived since.
She has represented Great Britain since 2012.
